Fantasy Color Aftercare

General Statement about bright, vivid, fantasy haircolors…

These are SEMIPERMANENT colors. They will fade and they will bleed. There is nothing that will stop this process. Please enjoy the fade.

How long they last completely depends on your hair type, texture, porosity, starting level, colors chosen and environmental factors like sun, water, chemicals, shampoos/conditioners, styling products, and hot tools.

Repeated colorings over existing semipermanent colors may help extend the time between colorings and extend the vibrancy of your color.

Guidelines to get the most out of your new haircolor

Washing- DO NOT WASH YOUR HAIR FOR THE FIRST 48 HOURS! Use professional color safe, sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. If your hair is being lightened, then moisturizing products are your best option. Always wash in COLD water. ANYTIME your hair gets wet can cause fading and bleeding. The less you wash, the longer it will last. Also, color can bleed onto clothes, towels and bedding. Washing your face with certain products can also cause a lot of fading around the front hairline so please be mindful of that.

Use dry shampoo in between washes to soak up oils and sweat. Make sure you are applying enough product into your roots and then allowing it to sit for a full minute or two and then brushing your hair to disperse any white cast the dry shampoo causes.

Olaplex- If your hair is being lightened prior to the semi-permanent color then Olaplex will be added to your lightener. Olaplex stand alone treatments and take home products are recommended to keep your hair the strongest is can be. Olaplex No. 3 is a weekly at home treatment for your hair. This is a repairing treatment, not a deep conditioner.

Hot Tools- Hair melts at 450 degrees. It can seriously damage your hair and it will cause color to fade faster. So turn down your irons (below 350) or refrain from using them! Use titanium or tourmaline instead of ceramic, they heat hair more evenly and glide better over your hair.

Always use a heat protectant before blow drying and again before hot tools!
Sun Exposure and Tanning beds- UV exposure will fade your hair. Avoid this and/or cover up.

Swimming- Pools, lakes, oceans, hot tubs, sprinklers, rain, snow, any kind of wetness in your hair has the potential to fade your hair color or cause bleeding. If you must go swimming keep your hair out of the water. If that is not an option, then wetting your hair with clean water first and then applying a leave-in conditioner may help.

During your appointment you will be recommended products to help reduce color fading and to help maintain the health of your hair. There are no guarantees for the longevity of semi-permanent colors and no guarantees for the colors to not bleed into each other. There are also no guarantees that Fantasy color can/will be completely removed at a later date.
