Your color is amazing. Let’s keep it that way.

Color Aftercare

General Statement about haircolor…

All artificial hair color will fade. Proper at-home care will extend the life and vibrancy of your color. Water, UV rays, harsh shampoos, and heat are the biggest contributors of fading. Scheduling proper maintenance appointment will also keep your hair looking its best.

Guidelines to get the most out of your new haircolor

Washing- DO NOT WASH YOUR HAIR FOR THE FIRST 24 HOURS! Use professional, color safe, sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. If your hair is being lightened, then moisturizing products are your best option. Always wash in cool water. The less you wash, the longer it will last. Washing your face with certain products can also cause a lot of fading around the front hairline so please be mindful of that.

Use dry shampoo in between washes to soak up oils and sweat. Make sure you are applying enough product into your roots and then allowing it to sit for a full minute or two and then brushing your hair to disperse any white cast the dry shampoo causes.

Toners- Toners done in the salon are designed to last up to 28 shampoos. That is not guaranteed. Pastel and ashier colors are going to fade the fastest. Regular toning appointment willl keep your tone amazing between lightening services. Purple shampoos can be very drying and may strip off toners. Wait at least 3 weeks before using purple shampoos at home. I recommend using purple conditioners instead because they are less drying. I have them in the salon for purchase.

Olaplex- If your hair has been lightened then Olaplex was added to your lightener. Olaplex stand alone treatments and take home products are recommended to keep your hair the strongest is can be. Olaplex No. 3 is a weekly at home treatment for your hair. This is a repairing treatment, not a deep conditioner.

Deep Conditioner- Monthly deep conditioning treatments can be done at home and are inexpensive but vital to your hair staying properly moisturized and healthy between salon visits.

Hot Tools- Hair melts at 450 degrees. It can seriously damage your hair and it will cause color to fade faster. So turn down your irons (below 350) or refrain from using them! Use titanium or tourmaline instead of ceramic, they heat hair more evenly and glide better over your hair. Pro-Tip: Use velcro rollers.

Always use a heat protectant before blow drying and again before hot tools!

Sun Exposure and Tanning beds- UV exposure will fade your hair. Avoid this and/or cover up. Use hair care products with UV filters.

Swimming- Pools, lakes, oceans, hot tubs, sprinklers, rain, snow, any kind of wetness in your hair has the potential to fade. If you must go swimming keep your hair out of the water. If that is not an option, then wetting your hair with clean water first and then applying a leave-in conditioner may help.

During your appointment you will be recommended products to help reduce color fading and to help maintain the health of your hair. There are no guarantees for the longevity of colors without proper hair care products being used.
